It establishes the interface between wireless clients (e.g. laptops, smartphones, IoT devices) and a wired network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">End devices connect to the access point via their integrated or external wireless adapters. This acts as a base station, receives the wireless data packets and forwards them via a wired connection (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.delphin.de\/en\/glossary\/ethernet\/\" data-type=\"glossar\" data-id=\"7316\">Ethernet<\/a>) into the local network or further into the Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Access points are used in both private and professional networks to set up wireless networks or extend their range.
