It is used to calculate the change in a measurement signal over time and thus represents the mathematical derivative of a source channel.

While one measurement channel records the current value of a measured variable, the differentiator channel calculates how quickly that value changes over a specific time period. The result is displayed as Change per unit of time is displayed and enables a detailed analysis of dynamic processes.

The calculation is performed continuously based on a selected source channel. This allows trends, accelerations, or rapid signal changes to be detected and analyzed early on, without the need for additional external calculations.

In measurement, testing, and automation technology, differentiation is frequently used to determine the rates of change of physical quantities. For example, velocity can be calculated from a displacement measurement, or the rate of temperature change can be calculated from a temperature measurement.

Typical examples of use:

Calculating Velocity from Distance or Position Measurements

Calculating Acceleration from Velocity Values

Analysis of Pressure Changes in Hydraulic or Pneumatic Systems

Monitoring of temperature rise or cooling rates

Detection of Rapid Process Changes in Test Benches

Condition Monitoring of Machinery and Equipment

Advantages of the differentiator channel:

Automatic Calculation of the Change in the Signal Over Time

Real-time analysis directly within the measurement system

No additional external signal processing is required

Early Detection of Dynamic Process States

Flexible integration with other virtual channels and features

As part of the Virtual Channels, the Differentiator Channel expands the capabilities of the Delphin measuring instruments by enabling powerful mathematical evaluations directly during data acquisition.
