It serves both to protect people and equipment and to ensure the trouble-free operation of electrical and electronic systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In electrical, measurement, and automation technology, grounding serves various purposes. In addition to protecting against hazardous touch voltages, it helps dissipate interference, reduce electromagnetic interference, and improve the quality of measurement signals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Generally speaking, there are two main types of grounding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Protective grounding (PE \u2013 Protective Earth)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Protective Grounding<\/strong> is designed to protect people, animals, and property. In the event of a fault\u2014such as insulation damage or a short circuit to an equipment enclosure\u2014dangerous fault currents are safely diverted to ground. This allows protective devices such as fuses or residual current devices (RCDs) to trip and shut off the power supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Typical functions of protective grounding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Protection Against Electric Shock<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dissipation of Fault Currents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased operational safety<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Protection of Equipment and Facilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Functional Grounding (FE)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Functional Grounding<\/strong> is not primarily intended for personal protection, but rather to fulfill a technical function within a system. It is used to divert interference currents and electromagnetic disturbances, thereby improving signal quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Functional grounding plays an important role, particularly in measurement and automation technology, since even minor disturbances can affect the accuracy of measurements.
