This question was the focus of an exceptionally close collaboration between the Technical University of Dresden and Delphin Technology AG. Together, the partners developed a fully automated fixed-bed reactor for catalytic alcohol utilization - a system that shows how classic reactor technology can be combined with modern measurement, control and regulation technology. The focus is not only on the chemical reaction, but also on the intelligent interaction of sensors, automation logic and software. The article describes the development, construction and operation of this catalyst test stand and derives practical design recommendations that are particularly trend-setting for industrial automation and test stand development.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hardly any other area of process engineering is currently changing as rapidly as laboratory automation. Whereas chemical reactors used to be controlled and monitored manually, today's research requires precision in the millisecond range and complete data traceability. This is the only way to investigate complex catalytic processes such as the conversion of methanol or ethanol to hydrocarbons in a reproducible manner. The joint project between TU Dresden and Delphin Technology was created precisely at this interface between basic research and industrial application. The aim was to develop a modular testing system that combines the requirements of a scientific laboratory with the robustness of industrial automation technology. TU Dresden contributed its expertise in reactor design, catalysis and safety concepts, while Delphin realized the complete automation architecture, control and measurement technology - from the sensor to the graphical user interface.<br>User interface.
