Actuator

Actuator

A Actuator is a technical element that converts a supplied input variable (e.g. electrical signal) into a different output variable (e.g. mechanical movement, pressure or light) in order to trigger a desired action or effect. Examples of actuators are valves, signal lights, relays or actuators.

In measurement and testing technology, actuators convert measurement or control commands into physical actions, such as opening a test valve, triggering an alarm or adjusting test conditions. They therefore form the counterpart to Sensorsthat record measured variables and provide signals.
