Monitor remote systems with remote monitoring

Remote monitoring is a method of tracking the online status of systems from a distance. The measurement data is transmitted securely via an encrypted mobile phone connection and analysed, visualized and archived centrally or remotely from the measurement data acquisition system. The mobile phone connection can also be used to set up and configure the measuring device and the measuring channels. In conjunction with a GPS receiver, GPS time synchronization or location tracking of mobile measurement applications is also possible.

By using technologies such as sensors, transmission networks and software solutions, companies can implement an efficient and cost-effective method of monitoring their systems. Remote monitoring enables real-time data analysis, early alerts and rapid response, resulting in improved uptime, higher productivity and reduced downtime. It also provides the flexibility to access and control systems from anywhere in the world, increasing efficiency and security across multiple industries.

Encrypted VPN connection via WWAN

Remote monitoring takes place separately from safety-critical company or production networks. Mobile connections such as 4G and LTE are suitable for data transmission. Delphin recommends securing data traffic via an encrypted VPN tunnel (Virtual Private Network) from an external provider.

VPN client in the PC/laptop: With step-by-step instructions and in just a few clicks, the PC/laptop is equipped with an open source Open VPN GUI as a remote station.

Mobile radio and VPN service: The SIM card of a mobile phone provider and the VPN service of a provider are required. When configuring the VPN service, certificates are set up in the remote stations to ensure unique identification of the participants.

Encrypted VPN tunnel: Finally, the transport route between the measuring device or router and the PC/laptop is securely encrypted end-to-end via a virtual VPN tunnel.

Practical example

Remote monitoring with alarm management

A service provider uses remote monitoring to monitor the vibrations of a plant in a refinery in the Netherlands. The Expert Vibro measuring device records 10 ksamples per second with 16 measuring channels. The collected data is transmitted to the control center via an external LTE router at selected time intervals. The online data visualization and online analysis of the measured values take place here with a delay of just a few milliseconds.  
If the vibration values exceed preset thresholds, the operator at the control center automatically receives an alarm text message via the Expert Vibro's alarm management function. The existing LTE connection can be used to automatically intervene immediately and directly in the process if required.

Additional option: Remote monitoring linked to GPS functionality

In conjunction with an optional GPS antenna, the Expert measuring device can also perform GPS functions:

Location tracking of mobile measurement applications: The measuring device is equipped with a GPS receiver and, in addition to remote monitoring, can also save GPS data for mobile applications, for example to document a coordinate and also a route.

GPSTime synchronization: In a stationary or mobile application without a timer, GPS time synchronization takes place via the GPS antenna. This allows different signals to be recorded synchronously or several measuring islands to be synchronized.
