Self-sufficient and modular measured value acquisition
Modular measured value acquisition is an important component of many technical applications that involve acquiring and evaluating data from various sensors. Individual modules are used, each of which is designed for a specific sensor or a specific type of measured variable. These modules can then be flexibly combined with each other to carry out the desired measurements. The most important aspect of modular data acquisition is the compatibility of the individual modules with each other. They must be designed in such a way that they can communicate with each other without any problems and provide the recorded data in a standardized format. Only then is it possible to process the data efficiently and obtain meaningful results.
Modular measuring systems are used in distributed applications and various measuring tasks. The ProfiMessage system is freely scalable and can be tailored to the requirements of the measuring system via masters and slaves as well as an extensive range of I/O modules. Communication between the participants is via a two-wire bus system; communication with the PC is via Ethernet. A bus device can have up to 32 analog or 48 digital inputs. Compared to competitor products ProfiMessage has an internal data memory for measured values and extensive functions in the measuring system for signal processing, such as calculation and monitoring channels.

Practical example of modular measured value acquisition
Dispersed measurement in photovoltaic field trials
At a solar institute, a ProfiMessage is used to measure panels from the photovoltaic sector at distributed test facilities. In addition to DC voltage measurements, temperatures, radiation and weather data are recorded. The connection to the campus network is made via LAN. To bridge short-term LAN network failures, the ProfiMessage master station saves all measured values, including those from the connected slaves, in the internal memory. This prevents data loss, especially during longer-term measurements. The data is evaluated using ProfiSignal Basic and scientific analysis software, which is connected online to the ProfiMessage measuring system via a driver.
