Data logger

A Data logger is a data acquisition device for the continuous acquisition, storage, and provision of measurement data. It is used to acquire analog and digital input signals as well as data from bus systems such as Profibus-DP, RS232 or other communication interfaces and make them available for later analysis.

Data loggers typically have a non-volatile data storage, so that measurement data is retained even during power outages or system interruptions. In addition, they feature various inputs for direct connection of sensors and transducers. Typical signals include voltage and current signals such as mV, V or mA, as well as resistance signals, thermocouples, and digital states.

In measurement and testing technology, data loggers are used to reliably record physical quantities such as temperature, pressure, humidity, flow rate, vibrations, power, or other process variables over extended periods of time. The integrated signal conditioning enables the direct processing of a wide variety of sensor signals without the need for additional hardware.

Modern data loggers often operate autonomously and do not require a PC to be permanently connected for data acquisition. This makes them particularly well-suited for long-term measurements, mobile applications, test benches, energy monitoring, and industrial plant monitoring. The recorded data can be stored locally or transmitted to higher-level systems via network and communication interfaces.
