The DataService is a key software component of the ProfiSignal and handles communication between the connected measurement hardware and the ProfiSignal application. It forms the basis for the reliable acquisition, storage, and provision of measurement and process data in modern measurement and automation systems.
One of DataService’s most important tasks is to continuously collect and manage measurement data from connected data acquisition systems. The recorded values are stored and can then be used by ProfiSignal applications on the same computer or over the network. This enables centralized data storage that multiple users and applications can access simultaneously.
In addition to data acquisition, DataService also manages continuous processes and long-term measurements. Even when the visualization software is not actively in use, measurement data continues to be reliably recorded and stored. This ensures complete documentation of processes and plant conditions.
Another component of DataService is the integrated User and Alarm Management. User rights can be managed centrally, allowing different user groups to access specific functions and data. At the same time, alerts can be configured for defined thresholds or events to provide early warning of critical process conditions.
DataService can be used as Windows Service run in the background. As a result, data acquisition starts automatically when the operating system boots up and operates independently of logged-in users or open applications. This enhances operational reliability and enables dependable continuous operation in industrial environments.
As a central communication and data management component, DataService ensures that measurement data is efficiently exchanged, stored, and made available between Delphin hardware and ProfiSignal. It thus forms an important foundation for the continuous monitoring, analysis, and documentation of measurement and process data.
