PID controller channel | The Proportional Intergal Differential Controller is one of the most widely used and most universal controller types today. It combines the characteristics of the three controller types (P, I, D controller) and can be defined in a series or parallel structure. The main advantage of the PID controller over other controller types is its adaptability to a controlled system. With a constant setpoint, it prevents a permanent control deviation in the event of a step change in reference and disturbance variables, compensates for delays in the controlled system and thus simplifies the controlled system. The I component to avoid a steady-state control deviation has a disadvantageous effect on the speed. Furthermore, the PID controller cannot be used for controlled systems with dominant dead time.
