The Sampling rates - (also known as sample rate) in signal processing refers to the frequency at which an analog signal is recorded (sampled) at discrete time intervals and thus converted into a discrete-time signal. It specifies the number of measurements or samples per second and is given in Hertz (Hz) or in "samples per second" (samples/s).
A sufficiently high sampling rate is crucial for the correct digital representation of an analog signal. According to the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem, the sampling rate must be at least twice as high as the highest frequency occurring in the signal in order to avoid aliasing effects - i.e. overlapping and misinterpretation of frequencies.
