Transmitter

A Transmitter is a measuring device that converts an analog input signal into an analog output signal that is uniquely associated with it. Typical input signals are physical quantities such as voltage, current, resistance, or charge. A transducer stage ensures that a raw signal—which is often specific to the sensor—is converted into a standardized signal that is easy to process further.

Tasks and Typical Signs

Transducers perform several tasks simultaneously: signal conversion, amplification, linearization, and, in some cases, filtering. Voltages or currents from sensors are often converted into standard signals such as 0–10 V or 4–20 mA, which can be easily processed by controllers, data acquisition systems, or control systems. This creates a clear, reproducible relationship between the physical quantity and the output signal, which simplifies parameterization and diagnostics.

Electrical Isolation and Safety

An important application of signal transducers is electrical isolation between the sensor side, the signal conditioning device, and, if necessary, different ground potentials. This isolation reduces interference, ground loops, and overvoltages, thereby improving both measurement accuracy and system safety. Galvanic isolation is particularly crucial when dealing with multiple analog input signals to prevent mutual interference.

Transducers and Delphin Measurement Technology

In many modern measurement and data acquisition systems, the functionality of traditional transducers is already integrated into the devices. Through integrated signal conditioning and sensor parameterization, incoming standard signals or raw signals are scaled back to their original units (e.g., °C, bar, m/s²). This allows users to view and process the physical units directly, while the actual conversion and conditioning take place in the background within the measurement system.
