Vibration analysis
Vibration analysis is an important part of the maintenance of machines and systems. Vibrations can be recorded and analyzed on site using measurement technology devices such as acceleration sensors and vibration measuring devices. This data is then evaluated using special software to identify possible causes of the vibrations. Based on this analysis, targeted measures can then be introduced to eliminate the problems in order to avoid breakdowns and improve the efficiency of the systems.
Detect machine vibrations
Recording machine vibrations is a field of application that can vary greatly due to its approaches and objectives. The general aim is to detect changes in the operating condition as part of condition monitoring through regular or permanent recording and vibration analysis of machine vibrations, as well as to analyze machine vibrations in order to diagnose damage or optimize operational safety and production quality.
Depending on the measurement task, the sensor technology used and the respective machine type, there may be different requirements for the measurement technology for vibration analysis.
What are standard signals in vibration analysis?
In order for physical process variables, such as temperatures, humidity or pressures, to be processed by evaluation devices, they must be converted into standardized electrical signals. These signals can be transmitted either as current or voltage signals.
In the vast majority of applications, current signals are preferred to voltage signals. The advantage of current signals is their insensitivity to electromagnetic interference. Voltage losses due to line resistances are also not to be expected with current signals.
Where is vibration analysis used in industry?
There are many different causes of vibrations in machinery with rotating and other moving components. Such specific sources of interference are, for example
- Toothing errors in the gearboxes
- Pronounced wave curvatures
- Imbalances and misalignment
- Foundation problems
- Additional vortex vibrations due to liquids and gases
- Electromagnetic interference
- Certain cavity formations in rapidly flowing liquids
- Deposits on fan elements
- Wear of rolling bearings
- Disturbed concentricity of plain bearings
Even a single technically faulty system within a rotating machine park can be enough to bring the entire production to a standstill.
For this reason, the areas of application of predictive vibration analysis in industry are very numerous. They relate in particular to
- Motors with drives of all kinds
- Industrial pumps
- Technical gearboxes
- Fans and other ventilation systems
- Compressors and other compression systems
- Rotating rollers and their bearings
- Turbines and other systems in power plants
- Special wind turbines
Solutions for vibration analysis
Measuring devices and data loggers are used to record the sensor measurement data. It is particularly important to note that special measuring devices with an extremely high sampling rate must be used.
With the Expert Vibro device from Delphin is a versatile and powerful measuring device for vibration analysis. It offers up to 16 synchronous and galvanically isolated analog inputs with a sampling rate of 50 kHz per channel for the acquisition of sensor data.
The inputs of the Expert Vibro are universally configurable on the software side and enable flexible recording of currents, voltages and IEPE sensors. Another user-friendly feature is that the individual analog inputs can be assigned individually to one of the 4 trigger groups with freely configurable comparators for keyphasor sensors. These functions provide maximum flexibility for every measuring task.

Vibration analysis without a PC
The Expert Vibro is a PC-independent measurement and control system that can be operated and configured intuitively. This means that raw signals, time signals and their spectra can be generated with ease. For in-depth analyses, you can further process the respective vibration signal with numerous optional modules in order to obtain the maximum information content. All common characteristic values, algorithms, filters, integrators, software channels and other parameters are available here, with which the signal can be individually evaluated for the measurement task.
Vibration analysis with the measuring case
With the mobile solution from Delphin, both the analysis and elimination of vibration problems in vibration measurement technology can be carried out flexibly and easily directly on site.
Vibration analysis with Delphin Technology
Vibration measurement technology from Delphin is aimed at users whose task is vibration monitoring, vibration analysis and damage diagnosis. The right software for your measurement and testing solution
Addition of special vibration measurement diagrams
The additional function "Vibro" supplements ProfiSignal with the diagrams FFT, cascade, time signal, bode, envelope curve as well as orbit and spectrogram. This makes it possible to display the vibration values measured and calculated with the vibration measurement device. The orbit and trend diagram enables, among other things, the graphical representation of the kinetic wave path.
