Ground loops

Ground loops

Ground loops | Due to the wiring of the sensor, measuring device and computer, their earthing points are also connected to each other. Potential differences can occur between these earthing points (e.g. due to lightning strikes or the electromagnetic fields of neighboring high-voltage lines that affect the measuring system). As a result, equalizing currents may flow via sensor and interface cables, which can lead to measurement errors. Comprehensive electrical isolation at the signal inputs and outputs of your Delphin device prevents ground loops, especially if floating sensors are used (recommended!). Improper shielding of sensor and communication lines can result in further earth loops.
