FAQ

The Expert Logger from Delphin Technology is a modular, universal data logger designed for the precise acquisition, storage, processing, and transmission of measurement data. It is suitable for use in industry, research, environmental measurement, test benches, energy optimization, and plant monitoring—both in stationary and mobile applications.

Continuous operation requires devices with industrial-grade components and non-volatile configuration. The Expert Logger from Delphin is designed for 24/7 industrial operation and enables continuous process monitoring for years—without the need for a PC running continuously.

Yes—with the Expert Logger from Delphin, all device settings are stored non-volatily and are fully preserved even in the event of a power loss. Once power is restored, the device automatically resumes measurement without requiring any reconfiguration.

Thanks to preconfigured interfaces, pluggable sensor connectors, and intuitive configuration software, commissioning the Expert Logger from Delphin is significantly faster than with many other modular systems. The configuration can be prepared offline and transferred to the device later.

Yes—the Expert Logger from Delphin features a built-in touchscreen display. This allows you to configure basic settings such as the IP address and subnet mask, as well as view selected measurement values directly on the device. It can be operated via the touchscreen or, alternatively, using a connected USB mouse.

No—the Expert Logger from Delphin processes measured values directly within the device via so-called software channels. Averaging, threshold detection, time functions, and integration are configured via settings rather than through programming. This allows the device to be used either as a standalone monitoring device or as a PLC replacement.

The Expert Logger from Delphin measures voltage and current, thermocouples, Pt100 and Pt1000 sensors (RTDs), resistances, strain gauges (SG), digital signals, and frequencies, as well as sensors on the SDI-12 sensor bus. All measurement parameters can be recorded simultaneously in a single device.

Depending on the device type, the Expert Logger offers between Delphin and 46 analog channels, as well as additional digital inputs and outputs. The four models offer 16, 32, 46, and 16 analog inputs, respectively—half of which can be used for Pt100(0) sensors in a four-wire configuration.

The Expert Logger from Delphin uses a 24-bit sigma-delta converter and achieves an accuracy of 0.01 % of the full-scale value for voltage and current measurements, and 0.02 % for resistance measurements in a 4-wire configuration. Pt100 measurements are accurate to 0.10 °C. The voltage measurement ranges extend from ±156 mV to ±10 V.

Thanks to FPGA-based measurement data acquisition, the Expert Logger from Delphin achieves a total sampling rate of 1,000 Hz per channel group—meaning up to 3,000 measurements per second for the Type 300, which has three groups. This allows even faster process operations to be documented seamlessly.

Depending on the model, the Expert Logger from Delphin has two to six internal reference measurement points. This achieves an accuracy of 0.1 % of the measurement range after sensor compensation. Alternatively, an external thermoblock with an accuracy of 0.3 K can be connected.

The Expert Logger from Delphin, in its 100 and 200 models, offers an integrated strain gauge supply voltage—5 VDC ±10 mV internally, and externally selectable at 1, 2.5, 5, or 10 V. This allows for force, pressure, and strain measurements without the need for additional amplifier hardware.

The Expert Logger from Delphin, in its 100 and 200 models, features an SDI-12 sensor bus. This allows digital environmental sensors—such as those for soil moisture, water levels, or weather data—to be connected directly and recorded together with analog measurements in a single device.

The Expert Logger from Delphin offers digital/frequency inputs up to 1 MHz with 64-bit counters. This allows flow, energy, and speed pulses to be recorded over long periods of time without the risk of overflow. The inputs are galvanically isolated from PE and from each other at ±400 VDC.

Galvanic isolation prevents ground loops and increases operational safety. In the Delphin Expert Logger, the channels are isolated from PE and from each other—with an isolation voltage of ±400 VDC and a dielectric strength of ±110 VDC. This effectively prevents interference between different potentials.

The Expert Logger Type 400 from Delphin features six analog outputs with 16-bit resolution and output ranges from 0 to 10 V and 0 to 20 mA, respectively. Supplemented by 24 digital inputs/outputs and PWM signals (5 Hz to 10 kHz), it is suitable for control and regulation tasks on test benches.

The Expert Logger from Delphin features 32 GB of internal memory for up to 960 million data points—including date and millisecond-level timestamps. Storage can be flexibly expanded via USB media, network storage (NAS with NFS or CIFS), and (S)FTP.

Yes—the Expert Logger from Delphin records measurement data either on a time-based or event-based schedule, including both preceding and subsequent data in each case. This ensures that only relevant process segments are stored, which saves storage space and significantly simplifies the subsequent analysis of fault events.

The Expert Logger from Delphin automatically transmits measurement data to the Internet or to external storage devices via the PUSH function. In addition, network protocols, open APIs, and direct integration with IT and automation systems are available. Event-triggered transmissions with pre- and post-data are also possible.

Yes—the Expert Logger from Delphin monitors threshold values directly within the device and, when necessary, triggers digital outputs or automatic notifications via email and SMS. Since the monitoring runs within the device, the alarm system functions even without a running PC or a higher-level control system.

Software channels as extended functions

Realise and execute monitoring and automation tasks easily

Our measuring and testing devices have extended functions, which are summarized under the term software channels. The online measurement data is offset against the software channels and then used for visualization, storage or control.

In this way, entire programme sequences can be configured very simply and intuitively with the regulation and control function. These then run autonomously without PC support. This is how you use your data logger effectively, also as a monitoring device or PLC replacement.

The software channels enable functions such as limit value monitoring, integration or online calculation and are configured very easily. This means that even users who are not experts in programming can easily implement their own monitoring tasks or balancing independently in the unit.
